SEN and Inclusion

Nursery Room Ltd is committed to inclusive practice, welcoming children of all backgrounds and abilities, including children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Our approach

We follow the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Code of Practice 2015 and the EYFS statutory framework’s requirements for identifying and supporting children with SEND. We use the graduated approach — assess, plan, do, review — to identify any child who may need additional support, working closely with parents/carers from the earliest opportunity.

As the setting’s registered provider, Sevjen Ali holds lead responsibility for SEND arrangements, in the same way as for safeguarding.

Identifying and supporting needs

  • We observe and assess every child’s development against the EYFS framework, and discuss any concerns with parents/carers promptly and sensitively.
  • Where a child may need additional support, we work with parents/carers to agree next steps, which may include liaising with the London Borough of Bexley’s area SENCO, health visitors, or other professionals via Bexley’s SEND Local Offer.
  • We make reasonable adjustments to our setting, routines and activities so that every child can take part, in line with the Equality Act 2010.
  • Where a child has an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan, or is going through an EHC needs assessment, we work with the local authority and other agencies involved in the child’s care.

Working with parents

We believe parents/carers know their child best. We share observations regularly, listen to parents’ own concerns and knowledge of their child, and agree together whether any additional support or referral is needed — nothing is done without parents being fully involved.

Admissions and inclusion

We do not discriminate against any child on the grounds of disability, special educational need, race, religion or any other protected characteristic. Every child is welcomed on the basis of what we can offer to meet their needs, and we will always try to make reasonable adjustments to do so.
