Learning & EYFS

A safe, secure environment where children learn best through play

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) — the framework every great nursery builds on — through sensory play, cooking, dancing and time outdoors, giving your child the safe and secure environment that helps them thrive.

The seven areas, our way

Communication & language

Songs, stories and endless chatter — building confident little talkers.

Physical development

Garden play, dancing and PE afternoons to wiggle, climb and balance.

Personal, social & emotional

First friendships, sharing, and feeling safe away from home.

Literacy

Story time every day, mark-making and a love of books.

Mathematics

Counting stairs, sorting bricks, sandpit measuring — maths through play.

Understanding the world

Cooking, growing, festivals and our local walks around Welling.

…plus expressive arts & design, woven through everything we do.

How your child learns

Children learn best through play

Play helps children explore the world, build confidence, make friends and develop important skills for life — all while having fun.

Learning through play

  • Developing language and communication skills
  • Learning to share, take turns and build friendships
  • Exploring early maths, creativity and problem-solving
  • Growing in confidence and independence

Following children’s interests

We pay close attention to what children enjoy and are curious about. Whether it’s dinosaurs, role play, construction, books or outdoor play, we use those interests to plan activities they will love — and learn from.

Planned topics & special events

  • Seasons and weather
  • Festivals and celebrations
  • Special days and community events

Our learning environment

Our rooms and outdoor spaces are welcoming, safe and full of fun things to explore. Children are encouraged to choose activities independently and learn at their own pace.

Working together with families

We value strong partnerships with parents and carers. By sharing information — in person, and through your daily Yenlio updates — we work together to support your child’s learning and wellbeing.
